Oswego police took an armed suicidal subject into custody without incident near the Sam’s Club Distribution Center in Oswego early Wednesday morning. At approximately 1:08am Wednesday, officers responded to a report of a suicidal male who had left his residence on foot with a handgun in the 300 block of Kensington Drive. The caller reported the subject was a veteran and may be aggressive toward responding officers. Officers from Oswego Police, with assistance from multiple surrounding jurisdictions, immediately established a perimeter and began a coordinated search of the area. A 16-year-old is in hospital after being shot near a park on Aurora’s East side Thursday evening. According to police, just before 5:50pm Thursday evening officers were called to the 2800 block of Village Green Drive after receiving reports of a gunshot victim near a park filled with children playing. When officers arrived, they located a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound to a lower extremity. The teen was transported to a nearby hospital and is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Aurora police successfully negotiated the surrender Wednesday morning of a suspect in a drive-by shooting after a nearly 8 hour stand-off, during which the suspect remained barricaded in a residence. According to police, around 1:30am Wednesday, officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert reporting multiple gunshots in the 100 block of South Fifth Street in Aurora. West Chicago police are investigating the circumstances of a dead body found in a tent in the 100 block of East North Avenue Tuesday afternoon. According to police, at approximately 1:50pm on Tuesday officers responded to a wooded area near the 100 block of East North Avenue after a passerby located a dead person inside a tent. The Batavia Police Department is investigating a traffic crash that occurred on Tuesday that sent three people to the hospital, including one who remains receiving advanced medical treatment. A 49-year-old Aurora man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his brutal stabbing of a man in 2023. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced Friday that Duka M. Smith has agreed to a sentence of 25 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections in exchange for a guilty plea to the offense of Armed Violence, a Class X felony.
