A 24-year-old man is dead and his 23-year-old female companion hospitalized after both were ejected from their car after hitting a tree Wednesday evening.
According to police, at approximately 11:21pm Wednesday Aurora police officers and firefighters responded to the 600 block of Spruce Street after receiving a 911 call reporting that a vehicle had struck a tree. Officers located two occupants — a man and a woman — who had been ejected from the vehicle.
Aurora Fire Department paramedics immediately began treatment at the scene. The 24-year-old male was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the 23-year-old female was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove in critical condition.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office responded and took custody of the deceased pending autopsy results. The male’s name will be released by the Coroner’s Office once next of kin notifications have been completed.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a gray Honda Accord was traveling westbound on Spruce Street at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway and struck a tree.
“This is an unimaginable tragedy for these families and for everyone impacted,” said Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas. “Our hearts go out to them as they navigate this difficult time. We ask everyone to take a moment to drive carefully, slow down, and stay alert — even small decisions behind the wheel can make all the difference.”
