Former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, a Republican, passed away yesterday after fighting pancreatic cancer. He was 79 years old. Edgar first ran for Governor in 1990, winning the first of two terms in the office. Edgar defeated Steve Baer in the Republican primary and was then elected in a close race against his popular Democratic opponent, Illinois Attorney General Neil Hartigan. An identified gang member from Aurora is in custody after a routine traffic stop resulted in police identifying a cache of illegal weapons in his vehicle. On Tuesday at approximately 5:43pm, Aurora Police Special Operations Group investigators conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Silverado in the 0–100 block of South West Street after observing the driver commit a non-moving violation. An Oswego man convicted of sexual assault of minors has been sentenced to life in prison. Kendall County State’s Attorney Eric Weis announced yesterday that Brian Hulsey was sentenced to Natural Life in Prison last week for sexually assaulting several minor children. Hulsey was previously found guilty of six (6) counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child and one (1) count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse after a three-day trial back in February of this year. Update: The DuPage County Coroner has issued a press release indicating that the body found in mid-August in the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve is indeed that of Olasinmibo “Sinmi” Abosede, a Naperville mother of five who was reported missing in July. “DuPage County Coroner Judith Lukas reports human remains found August 14, 2025, in the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve have been positively identified. The deceased is Olasinmibo Adunni Abosede (“Sinmi”), a 46-year-old woman who resided in Naperville, IL. Identification was made through dental records. An elderly Geneva couple died when their car was hit by an SUV Friday afternoon at the intersection of Bricher Road and Fisher Drive in Geneva. At 1:40pm Friday, Geneva Police and Fire departments, along with the Batavia Fire Department and Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District, responded to the intersection where they discovered a dark blue, 2020 BMW X3 off the roadway in a wooded brush area north of the intersection, sparking fire, and a blue, 2005 Toyota Corolla east of the intersection. A 22-year-old Aurora man is in hospital in critical condition after the motorcycle he was riding collided with an SUV Tuesday morning. The Aurora Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a vehicle that was in the area of the crash. According to police, at approximately 10:01am Tuesday, Aurora police and fire personnel responded to a two-vehicle crash at 75th Street and Commons Drive, where they found the rider in critical condition. A 36-year-old Chicago woman has been accused by authorities of performing sexual acts with an inmate at the St. Charles juvenile detention center in November of last year. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. A 55-year-old Oswego man was arrested Sunday for felony driving under the influence after being found driving, allegedly drunk, despite his license being revoked for prior DUI infractions. The defendant faces charges of Aggravated DUI, a Class 2 Felony, Obstructing Identification, and Driving While License Revoked. According to police, at approximately 10:39am on Sunday, Oswego Police conducted a traffic stop near Route 31 and Century Drive. A 27-year-old Geneva man has been arrested for possession and reproduction of child pornography. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain announced yesterday that the subject has been charged with 8 counts of Reproducing Child Pornography Victim Under 13, a Class X felony and 8 counts of Possessing Child Pornography, a Class 2 felony. UPDATE: Yesterday, the Kane County Coroner positively identified the man killed during a single-vehicle accident Tuesday morning in St. Charles Township. The victim was 63-year-old Francesco Sarnelli of Campton Hills. An external examination and x-rays have been performed, and toxicology samples have been collected and sent to a forensics lab for analysis. The preliminary cause of death is consistent with multiple traumatic injuries due to a motor vehicle crash.
