According the the Elgin Police Department, Elgin has had 94 reported catalytic converter thefts in 2022. Additionally, 25 catalytic converter thefts have occurred since June 1, 2022. This number is twice as many as the previous two months combined. According to auto website carbrain.com, the average cost of a catalytic converter repair is between $945 and $2475 including parts and labor. The catalytic converter cost itself can be up to $2250 of that. Call it a winning combination of soft and hard power. Just after midnight last Tuesday, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a residence on Old Mill Court in Elgin for a domestic disturbance.  Deputies made contact with a family member on the scene who explain that a 45-year-old woman who lives at the residence was not acting normally. Saturday morning at approximately 8:15am, a 57-year-old man driving a large SUV was killed when his vehicle inexplicably swerved off the road and struck a pole. The Naperville Police and Fire Departments responded to the intersection of Plainfield/Naperville Road and Gateshead Drive for a report of a vehicle crash, where they found the of a silver 2008 Chevrolet Suburban with significant damage on the side of the roadway. Last week, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies received a regional dispatch reporting a road rage incident where the occupants of the vehicle pointed firearms at other motorists.
