For almost a decade, 47-year-old José Arellano of Aurora sexually assaulted two young women that he knew and were under the age of the 13. Today, Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo has sentenced Arellano to life imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Arellano posted a $30,000 bond on July 6, 2020 and was last seen Dec. 8, 2021, when he appeared remotely for a hearing. When he failed to appear for the next hearing, March 29, 2022, Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo issued a warrant for his arrest. In the evening of November 8, 2018, Alexander Nicolas was near his vehicle on E. Forest Avenue in West Chicago when he was approached by two men, Juan Calderon of Aurora and Emilio Guillen of Rockford. The two men physically attacked and ultimately shot Nicolas in the head, with Guillen giving the order to shoot Nicolas and Calderon pulling the trigger. After shooting Nicolas, the men got into Guillen’s car and fled the scene. Nicolas was found in a pool of blood, dead, early the next morning. He was 26 years old. Since October 23rd, the Elgin Police Department has been made aware of five incidents involving a subject watching young females and fondling himself over his clothing, according to a statement from the department. The subject is described as a male Hispanic in his mid 30-40’s, approximately 5’8’’ with short black hair. All the incidents have occurred on the east side of Elgin with times ranging from 6:45 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. During the incidents the subject has been observed riding a bicycle, walking, or sitting in a park. One man was killed and one sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries after an early-morning head-on collision on Plank Road in the area west of Marshall Road, in unincorporated Plato Township. According to a police report, 22-year-old Harvy S. Barrios of Elgin was driving a 2014 Ford Fusion eastbound on Plank Road at about 12:48am this morning and passed a vehicle that was also traveling east.
