A 38-year-old DeKalb man who, in 2021, shot an innocent man in the face with a shotgun while on his break at a West Chicago business was sentenced to 45 years in prison yesterday. DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced that Ahmad Steele of DeKalb has been sentenced to forty-five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections following a three-day trial last month. On March 21, 2025, a jury returned a guilty verdict against Steele after approximately two hours of deliberations. Day 4 of the journey included a stop in Cobh, the final stop for the Titanic before taking its ill-fated journey in 1912, a tour of the the world-famous Midleton Distillery and a lovely drive to Kinsale.

One person was killed and two others hospitalized in a multi-vehicle crash on Randall Road in Elgin Monday afternoon. At approximately 2:37 p.m., Elgin police officers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving multiple vehicles on South Randall Road, south of South Street. The preliminary investigation indicates that a head-on collision occurred in the northbound lanes of Randall Road involving a dump truck and an SUV. The crash resulted in one of the drivers being pronounced deceased on scene. Two additional individuals were transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Sunday was a busy day for first responders along the Fox River. As previously reported, two individuals were rescued from the Fox River Sunday morning by Elgin firefighters after their boat capsized North of Interstate 90. About two hours later, Geneva firefighters and police officers rescued two women after they fell out of their kayaks into the Fox River near the 800 block of North Bennett Street. In the second incident, the Geneva Fire Department was dispatched at 10:43pm for a river rescue. Two as yet unidentified individuals were rescued from the Fox River Sunday morning after their boat capsized North of Interstate 90. The Elgin Fire Department responded to a water rescue Sunday, May 11, after a boat capsized in the Fox River north of Interstate 90, leaving two individuals clinging to the overturned boat. EPD was called in at approximately 8:11am and the first fire crew arrived within minutes, deploying a swift-water rescue diver within two minutes of arrival. A rescue boat stationed near the library was launched and headed north on the river less than seven minutes after dispatch. According…

A 48-year-old Chicago man has been sentenced to 50 years in federal prison for conspiring to abduct several victims at gunpoint in the Chicago suburbs. Sedgwick Williams participated in kidnappings in Naperville and Westchester in the fall of 2019.  Williams and a co-conspirator also attempted a third kidnapping in South Holland, Ill., but they were unsuccessful and were arrested fleeing from the intended victim’s residence. A federal jury last year convicted Williams and co-defendant Tai Hon La, 35, of Beach Park, Ill., of participating in the kidnapping conspiracy and other related charges.  On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Jorge L. The Naperville Police Department has taken the unusual step of warning parents about a potential gathering of teens in downtown Naperville this Friday. On the department’s social media platforms, parents were notified “of an online ‘trend’ encouraging a large teen gathering in our downtown this Friday evening. “While we encourage everyone to take advantage of the amenities our wonderful city has to offer, media reports in recent weeks have shown that these teen gatherings aren’t always just harmless meetups,” the message continued. “They can quickly lead to unsafe situations and even criminal activity.” The department indicated that it will have…
