Following the August 15 robbery of a PNC branch in the 600 block of Summit Avenue, two additional bank branches in Elgin have been robbed in the last three days. On Thursday just after 4pm, police were called to the Elgin State Bank located at 50 Tyler Creek Plaza for a report of a bank robbery. After a preliminary investigation, it was determined that no money was taken, no weapon was involved and no injuries were reported. This incident remains under investigation. The Federal Bureau of Investigations announced yesterday that they have apprehended a suspect in the robbery of a PNC Bank branch in Elgin. The suspect, a 30-year-old Elgin man, has been charged in federal court with robbing the branch in the 800 block of Summit Street in Elgin on August 15, 2023. He was arrested on Tuesday. He remains detained in federal custody pending a detention hearing before U.S. Magistrate Judge Young B. Kim at 11:30 a.m., today. A Naperville man was found guilty of attempted murder in the stabbing of his wife his 2019. Patrick O’Brien, 62, of Naperville, was found guilty of Attempt First Degree Murder (a Class X felony) and Aggravated Domestic Battery (a Class 2 felony). The verdict followed a bench trial that started on August 28, 2023 and concluded yesterday. On December 21, 2019, O’Brien, who was separated from his wife at the time of the incident, returned to his home to gather personal items. Two South Elgin High School student are dead after the car they were riding in collided with a semi-tractor trailer early this morning. At approximately 7:00am this morning, Bartlett Police Department and the South Elgin Fire Protection District responded to the intersection of IL Route 25 and Keynon Road to investigate a motor vehicle crash involving a 2007 Mack semi-tractor trailer and a 2002 Honda Civic that was occupied by four South Elgin High School students. Update: Authorities have provided additional information related to the head-on collision on Route 47 Tuesday afternoon, including the names of the drivers involved.
