Paddleboat Quarry open on weekends in May; daily hours begin on Memorial Day Naperville Park District plans to open the Paddleboat Quarry for weekend hours during the month of May, beginning Saturday, May 14, weather permitting. Paddleboats, kayaks and paddleboards will be available for rental on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. The Paddleboat Quarry will begin daily hours on Memorial Day, which is Monday, May 30. On Tuesday, at approximately 6:30am, two men allegedly entered a home on N. Sleight Street in Naperville while the owner and his minor daughter were asleep. Once inside the residence, the men proceeded upstairs to the bedroom where the owner was sleeping. When the owner tried to force the men to leave the home, they attacked him, punching and kicking him multiple times. Both alleged intruders were taken into custody later that day without incident. An Elgin police officer yesterday shot and killed a dog that had attacked a juvenile moments before. At 7:37 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Kathleen Drive and Meyer Street for a report of multiple juveniles being attacked by a dog. They found a large breed dog attacking a juvenile lying on the ground. An adult male subject separated the attacking dog from the juvenile, and both ran clear from the immediate area. Five Geneva Police officers are being credited with saving a man who was threatening to take his life last Wednesday on the Union Pacific West line train trestle spanning the Fox River. At around 8:00pm, officers were able to stop train traffic after making contact with a man standing on the bridge platform, nearly 100 feet above the river. Officers walked along the trestle to help deescalate the situation. Yesterday morning at about 9:40am, a 19-year-old man died when his car collided with a tractor-trailer and burst into flames on I-88 near Kaneville. According to the Illinois State Police, Edwin Chavez of Bensenville was driving westbound in the right lane when is 2015 Chevrolet Impala struck the back end of a 2001 Freightliner Truck Tractor and Semi-Trailer. Upon impact, Chavez’ Impala burst into flames and became fully engulfed. Chavez was pronounced deceased at the scene. No injury to the driver of the tractor-trailer was reported. A man who was deemed a person of interest in the suspicious death investigation of a 43-year-old Geneva woman last week has been released from police custody. The Geneva Police Department, with concurrence from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, released the man from Kane County Jail on Friday evening. No charges have been filed in the case, which remains under investigation by Geneva Police, the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force, and the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
