A Wisconsin man is in custody today after Kane County Sheriff’s Detectives stopped him for speeding while travelling westbound on I-90 near Rutland Township and subsequently discovered cocaine, cannabis, Fentanyl and weapons on his person and in his car. During the stop by Detectives assigned to the Criminal Interdiction Tea, the strong odor of raw cannabis could be detected coming from within the vehicle. One man is dead and another in hospital after being shot during a home invasion Saturday in St. Charles. At around 7:37pm Saturday, St. Charles police officers arrived at an active scene at the 100 block of Walnut Drive on the city’s west side, just east of Randolph, having been alerted to shots fired inside an apartment. They immediately came upon a man who had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest area being dragged out of the apartment by a 26-year-old Lindenhurst man. According to an alert from the Aurora Police Department, certain neighborhoods in Aurora have seen a rash of car thefts and carjackings in the past month. Thieves appear to be targeting delivery drivers and other who leave their vehicles unattended with the car running. Yesterday, DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick added his name to a growing list of county sheriffs across Illinois pledging not to enforce the newly passed Protect Illinois Act which bans the purchased of certain types of rifles and requires currently owners of such rifles to register with the state. Here is Mendrick’s statement in full. It follows the form and substance of similar statements issued around the state. As of this morning, at least 74 county sheriff’s have pledged not to enforce the new law. Included in this total are Kane, DuPage, McHenry and DeKalb counties.

On Wednesday, January 11, at approximately 10:55 a.m., the West Chicago Police Department received a call from a woman at the Speedway gas station on the corner of Roosevelt Road and Washington Street claiming she was the victim of domestic violence by her boyfriend.
