The death of former Batavia wrestling standout and “Bachelorette” contestant Chris Arlis has prompted expressions of grief not only throughout the Fox Valley community, but also among his former “Bachelorette” cast members. Arlis was found dead on Tuesday at his Batavia home. His death was first announced by Batavia wrestling coach Scott Bayer. Arlis was a contestant in the 2015 season of the hit ABC reality show, and actually achieved the first date with Kaitlyn Bristol, the star of that season. 23-year-old Gehovani R. Gomez has agreed to a sentence of 11 years in prison in exchange for a guilty plea to the offense of drug-induced homicide, Class X felony. Kane County Circuit Judge John A. Barsanti accepted the plea. In the early the afternoon of Sept. 6, 2018, Gomez sold between 1 and 15 grams of a substance containing heroin and fentanyl to the victim, 30-year-old Crystal Villegas of West Dundee. Villegas was found dead in her West Dundee apartment around 8 p.m. that evening. The Kane County Coroner’s Office determined that Villegas died of heroin and fentanyl intoxication. In…

According to a report from ABC7 news, Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin will announce a run for Governor as a Republican on Monday. The report says that sources have indicated that Ken Griffin, Illinois’ wealthiest man, decided on Irvin in December to throw his significant fortune behind, having vowed to spend significantly to defeat incumbent governor JB Pritzker. Griffin spent nearly $50 million to help defeat Pritzker’s progressive income tax referendum, and said he will do whatever it takes to beat Pritzker. A 23 year-old Aurora man has been charged with 2 counts of first-degree murder in relation to the January 15, 2021 shooting death of Fernando Carapia, also of Aurora. It is alleged that on the afternoon of January 15, 2021, the suspect was a passenger in a vehicle that traveled to the 300 block of South Spencer Street in Aurora. He then exited the car and fired multiple gunshots, killing the 32 year-old Carapia. The accused is in custody at the Kane County jail.
