Bakkelund passed away early this morning.” Father John McFadden announced the death of the pastor at Geneva’s St. Peter Catholic Church, Father Jonathan Bakkelund, in a message to parishioners today. “Fr. Jared Twenty was with him when he passed from this life to God. May he rest in God’s peace. Once we have more information on the funeral arrangements we will share them with you.” The 39-year-old priest had been moved to hospice as a result of health issues related to alcohol only recently. The large-scale sculptures on display at St. Charles’ Mt. St. Mary Park have long added to the beauty of the 30-acre space. Beginning in June, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the rotating collection of the Sculpture in the Park exhibition for an entire year. A Wauconda man is in custody after being accused of selling cocaine in Naperville. An apparent accomplice was also arrested on weapons-related and possession charges. The arrests, which took place Friday afternoon in a parking lot in the 800 block of Illinois Route 59, followed a month-long investigation into alleged cocaine sales in Naperville. In an apparent incident of road rage, two men were hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after a traffic altercation in Elgin. Elgin police officers were summoned to Sherman Hospital early Tuesday afternoon to investigate an adult male stabbing victim being treated for non-life threatening injuries. It was determined that the man’s wounds were the result of a traffic altercation involving another adult male that occurred near Randall Road and Fox Lane. The second participant was located and had a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, for which he was treated at a local hospital. A combination of ice and freezing rain overnight made travel on Fox Valley roads a nightmare, with multiple road closures and vehicular accidents. As of approximately 6:00am, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office indicated that, as temperatures rise, roads are becoming more passable, but travel is “very slow.” Overnight, multiple roads were closed due to the icy conditions, with numerous reports of stranded vehicle off the road around the area.
