A 20-year-old Geneva woman has succumbed to injuries sustained when the vehicle in which she was a passenger crashed into utility pole Thursday morning.

Sandra Sanchez passed yesterday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday morning at approximately 8am deputies responded to a single vehicle crash that occurred near the 42W300 block of Ke De Ka Road in Sugar Grove Township, where they found Sanchez and the driver of the vehicle and provided aid.

Sanchez was transported to Mercy Hospital in Aurora by ambulance in stable but critical condition with multiple traumatic injuries. She was ultimately transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for further care, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries yesterday.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the driver, a 19 year old from Batavia, was driving westbound on Ke De Ka Road when the passenger side tires of the vehicle, a 2014 Honda Civic, went off the roadway and onto the shoulder at a curve. The driver attempted to correct the vehicle, but it continued off the roadway and struck a utility pole near the front passenger side.

The driver was transported to Mercy Hospital by ambulance with minor injuries.

This crash remains under investigation.
