The 10th annual Elgin Fringe Festival is a visual and performing arts festival, featuring magic, dance, comedy, drama, music, and the undefined all in downtown Elgin. The Route 31 underpass will be closed Sunday, Sept. 10 as Union Pacific makes emergency repairs to the train bridge.Route 31 will be shut down from South Street to Third Street. Union Pacific did not provide the City with an official detour route. Motorists should exercise extra caution if they travel on downtown Third Street due to large crowds expected during the final day of Festival of the Vine. Retired Major M.G. Moncrief Jr. of Alabama, who served in both WWII and the Korean War, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his heroic and extraordinary achievements while participating in aerial flight. ​He died in 2003 at the age of 80. Years later, a person unrelated to Moncrief brought his U.S. Marine Corps identification bracelet to the Kane County Veterans Assistance Commission in hopes they could reunite it with its owner. Yet another fatal crash occured in Kane County Sunday afternoon as a collision at the intersection of Walker Road and IL Route 72 in Hampshire Township resulted in the death of a passenger. According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, early Sunday evening a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder was traveling north on Walker Road and initially stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of IL Route 72. Update: The identities of two South Elgin High School students killed in a tragic car accident Thursday have been released by authorities after being withheld pending notification of kin. Kammora Campbell, a 17-year-old student from Bartlett, and Talulay Henry, a 16-year-old student from Elgin, were the victims of the accident that occured Thursday morning at the intersection of Illinois Route 25 and Keynon Road. Police believe that the accident was a result of the driver of a 2002 Honda Civic failed to yield while making a left turn off IL Route 25 to Kenyon Road. Both drivers survived the accident.…

A Waterman man apparently couldn’t wait to reach a passing zone on Route 30 in Big Rock Saturday evening. As a result, he and the two people riding the motorcyle he hit head-on are dead. According to the Kane County Sheriff’s office, on Saturday evening at approximately 9:28pm a gray Honda Civic driven by 55-year-old Jaime Bibiano of Waterman was travelling westbound on US Route 30 from Davis Road in Big Rock. The recently-opened Emagine Batavia theatre, which boasts the larget movie screen in Illinois, will present the film “Taylor Swift: Eras Tour” starting Friday, Oct. 13, according to a press release. The concert film will be in theaters for a limited time only. An Aurora man has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of driving under the influence causing death. On December 13, 2020, at about 6 p.m., 38-year old Gustavo Gutierrez Aguilar was driving a 2007 Ford Mustang in the vicinity of Mountain Street and Austin Avenue in Aurora Township when his car struck a tree. Lazaro Rosas-Garcia, 29, a front-seat passenger, was unconscious and not breathing when first responders arrived. He was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital a short time later.
