A massive house fire in Campton Hills Tuesday caused over $1 million in damage, according to a press release from the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District. The home involved, located at 3N137 Woodcrest Court and belonging to Thomas and Vicki Mullally, was estimated to be approximately 5,000 square feet with an expansive 2-story, 4000 square foot garage, which is where, it is believed, the fire started from an accidental malfunction in a vehicle deep in the garage which quickly spread to the contents and the structure. A serious car accident on Plank Road in unincorporated Hampshire Tuesday afternoon resulted in severe injuries requiring a medivac to a nearby hospital. At approximately 4:49 on Tuesday, Kane County Sheriff deputies were dispatched to the scene of the accident on Plank Road, near the Meadowlark intersection in unincorporated Hampshire. There they found the result of what appeared to be a head-on collision between two vehicles. Injuries from the crash were considered serious enough to request a medical helicopter to transport victims quickly to hospital. An Aurora man was shot and killed just after midnight Monday on Aurora’s far west side. At 12:16 A.M. Monday morning, Aurora Police received several 911 calls reference multiple shots fired, and a person shot in the 2300 block of Candleberry Lane. Officers located a 36-year-old Aurora man, Isaiah Ayala, inside a residence suffering from gunshot wounds. Aurora Fire Department paramedics transported Ayala to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Ayala’s death is being investigated as a homicide. The rider of a motorcycle who was killed when his vehicle was struck by a Chevy van in Batavia Sunday evening has been identified. According to the Kane County Coroner’s Office, the deceased man is 61-year-old Jeffrey Smith of West Chicago. The preliminary cause of death was multiple injuries due to a motor vehicle collision. Toxicology samples were collected and sent to a forensic lab for analysis.
