A Maple Park man was killed this morning when his pick-up truck burst into flames after ploughing into a semi-truck on Route 47.
At approximately 5:18 AM this morning, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the scene of a fiery crash at the intersection of Illinois Route 47 and Beith Road in Campton Township. Upon arrival, deputies located a semi-truck in the southbound traffic lane of Route 47 with a vehicle underneath the trailer that was engulfed in flames.
The dashboard camera in the semi-truck showed the semi traveling southbound on Route 47 passing through the intersection with Beith Road. In the passenger-side mirror of the semi-truck, a small pick-up truck can be seen traveling eastbound on Beith Road. The pick-up truck ran the stop sign and crashed underneath the semi’s trailer and immediately burst into flames.
A witness behind the semi-truck confirmed the vehicle disobeyed the stop sign and the semi-truck was not speeding.
Juan J. Galvez, 49, of Country Life Dr in Maple Park, was the driver of the small pick-up truck, a 1996 Mazda, and was pronounced deceased on scene. Galvez was entrapped in the pickup truck, which was underneath the semi-trailer, pinned sideways in front of the rear trailer axle. Galvez’ vehicle and the middle of the semi-trailer were severely burned.
The driver of the semi-truck suffered no injuries and was released at the scene. At this time, the crash remains under investigation and Rt 47 remains closed as clean up continues.
