According to a press release from the city, Geneva’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Task Force will be hosting a community listening session at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 at Geneva City Hall Council Chambers, 109 James St. Created in 2021, the Task Force has developed a mission statement, identified 10 key areas of focus, and met with various advocacy groups. On Monday, the Board of Trustees of the Village of East Dundee voted to approve a 5% tax on streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, etc. East Dundee joins Chicago and Evanston as municipalities that have decided to treat streaming services as being akin to cable or satellite television, the usage of which has plunged in recent years. A 57-year-old Aurora woman is dead after her vehicle crashed into a tree Tuesday afternoon. At approximately 4:15 Tuesday, the Aurora Police Department and Aurora Fire Department were dispatched to the 2100 block of Walcott Drive for a vehicle that had crashed into a tree. When officers arrived, they found the driver unconscious and not breathing, and immediately began CPR. Aurora Fire Department paramedics arrived moments later and took over life-saving measures. Paramedics transported the woman to an Aurora-area hospital where she was pronounced dead. A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver likely suffered from a medical emergency while driving.…

Monday evening, the Geneva City Council unanimously approved a plan to develop a roughly 75-acre plot on Geneva’s east side just north of Route 38 between Kirk Road and Kautz Road. The plan, first submitted in September 2021 by HIP VI Enterprises, LLC / C/O Hillwood, managed by the son of Ross Perot, calls for the annexation of the plot and a zoning change from rural residential to light industrial in order to facilitate the construction of 3-4 light industrial buildings. The Illinois State Police today announced that they will conduct Roadside Safety Checks (RSCs) in Elgin this weekend. According to the announcement, officers working the detail will be watchful for drivers who are operating vehicles in an unsafe manner, driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, transporting open alcoholic beverages, and driving under the influence, as well as all other Vehicle Code and Criminal violations. Alcohol and drug impairment is a factor in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois and, through the United States, nearly 10,000 people die each year due to alcohol-impaired driving.

At 6 am this last Saturday, Stephen V. Holguin, 26, was driving in unincorporated Plato when something went very wrong. Holguin’s 2008 Volvo S80 was traveling eastbound on Plank Road near Marshall Road and for an unknown reason left the south side of the roadway and struck the embankment.  The Volvo then rolled over while Holguin, the sole occupant, was ejected from the vehicle.   He was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Sheriff’s Detectives, and members of the Kane County Drone Team are continuing the investigation into this crash.  It is unknown if drugs or alcohol played a role in this…
