Earlier this month, it appeared that Elgin’s wildly popular Halloween celebration, A Nightmare On Chicago Street, was doomed. The Elgin City Council had taken the recommendation of the city’s Special Events staff and cancelled this year’s event due primarily to the fiscal and logistical challenges presented by the current economic climate. But last night, the celebration got a reprieve. After significant backlash from local businesses and disappointed citizens, the City Council reversed its decision. The show will go on. A motorcycle hurled into a semi-truck Wednesday morning on Naperville’s east side, seriously injuring the rider and causing both vehicles to catch fire. At approximately 10:24 a.m., the Naperville Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the intersection of Illinois Route 59 and 95th Street in Naperville for a crash involving a semi-truck and a motorcycle. The initial investigation indicated that the motorcycle, a 2012 gray Kawasaki, was traveling southbound on Illinois Route 59 approaching 95th Street. The Aurora Police Department has arrested and charged a 66-year-old monk of Marmion Abbey as a result of an extensive sexual assault investigation. The investigation revealed the monk had sexual contact with a former student of Marmion Academy. In September of 2021, Aurora Police took a report on behalf of the former student, who detailed multiple instances of sexual contact with the accused while he was a student at Marmion Academy. The accused, who is also a teacher at Marmion Academy, continued his non-consensual sexual conduct with the student beyond graduation. At approximately 7:30 a.m. this morning, Aurora police responded to a report of a bomb threat called into the front office at Waubonsie Valley High School. Based on the information relayed by the caller, APD worked with district administration and determined that the safest method of investigating the threat was to keep the students in their classrooms. The school was placed into a “secure and teach” during this time. APD officers, with assistance from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a thorough check of the school and deemed the school was safe to resume normal activities. During this process, the…

An Aurora man was shot on in the 500 block of Morton Street Monday evening at around 9:00pm. Aurora police responded to the scene and the man was immediately transported to the hospital. A man showed up at an Elgin hospital with gunshot wounds Monday evening, but nobody knows where or how the injury was sustained. This is the 20th gunfire incident in Elgin this year. At about 9:30 p.m., Elgin police officers responded to an area hospital for a subject who arrived with injuries reported from a shooting incident. At this time, it is unknown where the incident occurred.
