Popular downtown Geneva restaurant Fiora’s announced via social media that it will close it’s doors effective today, January 3. According to the statement, Michael Anastasio, who co-owns Firoa’s with his wife Ann, suffered a “critical health event” this past year, prompting the closing. “He still has a tough road ahead of him that requires our complete focus.” Fiora’s was known for it’s warm ambiance, large outdoor patio that featured music during the summer months and, of course, it’s iconic house structure located at 317 S. 3rd in historic downtown Geneva. A Chicago man was tased by Hampshire police officers Friday afternoon after fleeing the scene of a traffic stop Friday afternoon in Hampshire Township. At approximately 12:06 p.m., a Kane County Deputy conducted a traffic stop at United States Highway 20 at I-90 in Hampshire Township on a blue Dodge Charger with Indiana license plates. In a remarkable series of events, the controversial “no-cash bail” provisions of the SAFE-T Act, which were supposed to go into effect this morning, has been put on hold by the Illinois Supreme Court. The Court granted an Emergency Motion for Supervisory Order filed jointly by Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser and DuPage County’s State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, which asked that the Court suspend implementation of the SAFE-T Act pending resolution of current litigation. A 31-year-old Aurora man was killed Wednesday when his failure to stop at an intersection resulted in a collision with another vehicle and a tree. The deceased has been identified as Axel Morales of the 2100 block of Charleston Drive, Aurora. A 45-year-old Geneva man was arrested Thursday evening and charged with numerous felonies, including attempted murder, after allegedly attempting to strangle his girlfriend. The accused was charged with: Geneva Police responded to the accused’s residence in the 100 block of Syril Avene in Geneva at 6:40 p.m., Dec. 22, related to a domestic disturbance called in by another household member.
