A 31-year-old Aurora man was killed Wednesday when his failure to stop at an intersection resulted in a collision with another vehicle and a tree.

The deceased has been identified as Axel Morales of the 2100 block of Charleston Drive, Aurora.

On December 28, 2022, at approximately 2:08 p.m., the Aurora Police Department responded to a report of an accident with injuries at the intersection of South Edgelawn Drive and Prairie Street.

When officers arrived on scene, they determined that Morales had been driving southbound on Edgelawn Drive before he disobeyed the stop sign at Prairie Street and struck another vehicle in the intersection before impacting a tree. Morales, the sole occupant of his vehicle, was found to be unconscious and not breathing and was subsequently pronounced deceased on scene.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to a local hospital for evaluation of a possible injury and released the same day.

Segments of South Edgelawn Drive and Prairie Street were temporarily closed from the intersection where the accident occurred while APD’s Traffic Unit conducted an investigation into the accident.
