Illinois State Police officials have confirmed that the body discovered in the Fox River underneath the Route 20 bridge in Elgin is that of Dandre E. Curtis, 32 years old, of Elgin. At this time, the Kane County coroner’s office cited the initial cause of death as drowning with no apparent signs of foul play. A completed coroner’s report is pending toxicology results. An Elgin woman was found dead in her home Monday evening after a child who apparently lived with her was found wandering 5 blocks away. According to an Elgin Police Department report, at approximately 6:40 p.m. officers responded to the area of Lawrence Ave and North Aldine Street in Elgin for a report of a found child in the area. Through further investigation, it was determined that the child, who was unharmed, lived in the 300 block of Heine Ave. Upon locating the child’s home, officers found another child, also unharmed, in the residence. On Friday, July 9, the Appellate Court for the Second District of Illinois overturned the conviction for domestic battery of controversial pundit and political operative Jeff Ward in a 2-1 decision. Mr. Ward, well-known in the Fox Valley for his often provocative commentary and sometimes abrasive personal style, had been found guilty previously by a jury in a trial overseen by Judge Clayton Lindsey from the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, Ward’s case having been previously moved by the chief judge of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit, Judge Susan Clancy Boles.
