Carpentersville knocked off defending champion St. Charles as the winner of the 2024 Drinking Water Taste Test for Kane County.  Three judges, including Kane County Board member Cliff Surges, sampled 27 glasses of unmarked water from nine municipalities. Geneva came in second and Sugar Grove and Aurora tied for third place, while other participating communities included West Dundee, Huntley, Montgomery, Batavia, and St. Charles. The annual event is organized by the Kane County Water Association, and Carpentersville’s water will advance to a larger contest during the American Water Works Association conference in the spring.

An Elgin police officer charged with child pornography earlier this month has resigned from the department, according to the City of Elgin. The officer was arrested by the Illinois Attorney General’s Office on December 4 and is being charged with eight counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of reproduction of child pornography. “The Elgin Police Department immediately launched an internal investigation with the city’s independent investigator following [the accused’s] arrest,” says Chief of Police Ana Lalley. “[He] was notified of his scheduled interrogation and chose to tender his resignation rather than participate in the police department’s internal…

Two employees of a Geneva tobacco shop were arrested on cannabis-related drug charges after a police search of the facility on December 19. The North Central Narcotics Task Force and Geneva Police Department arrested two employees and recovered more than 200 grams of cannabis and 70 cannabis vaping cartridges after executing a search warrant at Buzz Smoke N Vape shop at 722 East State Street.
