The Aurora Uke Fest (formally the City of Lights Ukulele Festival) will return on Friday, May 5, from 11am to 6pm. According to the City of Lights Ukulele Festivsl society, musicians like George Harrison, Eddie Vedder, Taylor Swift, Cliff Edwards, Jake Shimabukuro, and the late Israel Kamakawiwo’ole helped popularize the ukulele. Americans bought 1.6 million ukuleles in 2019, according to the group. Unlike prior years, the Aurora Ukulele Festival will be inside this year. This Friday, May 3, Aurora’s First Fridays brings nearly 30 food trucks to downtown Aurora. Held by the Aurora Downtown group, the Food Truck Festival will fill Benton Street from River Street to Broadway with a wide variety of food vendors from 5 to 9pm. This will be the sixth time the organization will host the event with vendors offering food ranging from soul food from Aunt Tina’s Sound Bites to dumplings from Yum Dum. An unidentified man is in hospital after an early-morning shooting on Elgin’s east side. At 12:10am this morning, Elgin police officers responded to the 600 block of Dover Drive for a reported shooting inside of a residence, where they found an adult male victim who was subsequently transported to an area hospital.
