Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser pronounced Friday that last week’s primary election “ran smoothly and with integrity.” In a press release, Mosser stated that Kane County’s General Primary Election Complaint Hotline fielded and responded to five telephone calls during Tuesday’s election day voting. Although final numbers won’t be known for several more days, preliminary returns from many of the state’s larger counties showed turnout hovering in the range of 20-25 percent. March madness isn’t just for basketball, it would seem. In the overnight hours of Tuesday and Wednesday this week, Batavia was hit by a wave of car burglaries that involved unlocked vehicles. On Wednesday, the Batavia Police department received multiple reports of criminal trespass to motor vehicles and burglary to motor vehicles. Several unlocked motor vehicles were ransacked, and in some cases, valuables were stolen. Twenty-nine residents of an Elgin apartment building have been displaced after a fire gutted their homes Tuesday afternoon. At 2:45 pm Tuesday, members of the Elgin Fire Department responded to the 1800 block of Mark Avenue for a report of a possible structure fire. Responding companies found a three story, multi-unit residential structure with smoke showing from the second and third floor windows and the roof. A former Naperville fire fighter has been charged with official misconduct and other felonies for allegedly breaking into a parked car and stealing prescription drugs from an NFD drop box.
