This unique and longstanding tradition places ceremonial 3’ X 5’ American flags at the graves of 15 military personnel who were killed in action and  laid to rest in Geneva Township cemeteries.   Those killed in action served in the Civil War, Spanish American War, WWI, WWII, and the Vietnam War.​ Additionally, in remembrance of township citizens who lost their lives in service but are buried elsewhere, a poignant tribute of 23 flags will be displayed at the plaza…

An Aurora man is in custody after being charged with the kidnapping of a 17-year-old in Aurora. Early Wednesday afternoon, police were notified by the victim that she had been kidnapped in the area of Illinois Avenue and Orchard Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and learned the victim was walking in a nearby neighborhood when a man, unknown to her, began following her. As she walked on the sidewalk in the 700 block of Orchard Avenue, the man quickly grabbed her from behind, covered her mouth with his hand, and dragged her away from the sidewalk. With the theme “Remembrance and Respect,” Aurora will celebrate the 156th anniversary of Memorial Day during the 2024 Aurora Memorial Day Parade, which will step off at 10am on Monday, May 27, 2024. Two Carpentersville men have been arrested in relation to a shooting Sunday evening that left a man hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. At 6:42pm Sunday evening, Elgin police officers responded to the 500 block of North McLean Boulevard for a reported shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male subject with apparent non-life-threatening injuries who was subsequently transported to an area hospital. The identity of the injured man has not been released. 2023 Wood Award Recipient Kristie Dienst has been named Parade Marshal for the 2024 Swedish Days Parade by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce.  According to a press release from the Chamber, Dienst was born and raised in Geneva.  She grew up on the East Side above her father’s music school, which is now Country Village Meats.  Even during her time at Geneva High School, she was busy, involved in cheerleading, choir, student council, pep club, and was even a hall monitor.  She learned from her parents to appreciate all things Geneva and give back to the community that gave her…

A 29-year-old West Chicago man is in custody after allegedly selling cocaine to an undercover Naperville police officer in downtown Naperville. As part of a wider initiative, the Naperville Police Department had developed the suspect as a potential source of illegal narcotics in the DuPage County area. On May 6, the suspect allegedly sold approximately 2.5 grams of cocaine to an undercover Naperville police officer while in a vehicle in downtown Naperville. Wisconsin teens are jumping their way into one of the coolest summer jobs in Lake Geneva. On Tuesday, June 11, the Lake Geneva Cruise Line will hold their annual tryout to choose this year’s mail delivery jumpers aboard the U.S. Mailboat Walworth. There are only a handful of places in the country where mail is still delivered by boat. 2024 marks the 108th year that the U.S. Mail has been delivered by boat on Lake Geneva.
