A 96% lunar eclipse will be visible from the Fox Valley area Thursday evening from between 9:30pm and 11:30pm. A lunar eclipse occurs when the earth comes directly between the sun and moon, blocking the sun’s light from all or part of the moon for a short period of time. Unlike a solar eclipse, lunar eclipses are safe to view with the naked eye; no special glasses or equipment are required. For tonight’s viewing, the Fox Valley is fortunate to have clear skies forecasted for the peak viewing hours. Peak eclipse is expected at around 11:12pm.
