The American Red Cross is facing an emergency blood shortage as it experiences the lowest number of people giving blood in the last 20 years. Blood and platelet donations are needed now to help alleviate the shortage and ensure lifesaving medical procedures proceed without delay. “One of the most distressing situations for a doctor is to have a hospital full of patients and an empty refrigerator without any blood products,” said Dr. Pampee Young, chief medical officer of the Red Cross, the nation’s largest blood supplier. “A person needs lifesaving blood every two seconds in our country — and its availability can be the…

A 43-year-old St. Charles man is in custody after police found him in possession of multiple types of illicit drugs and a massive cache of illegal guns, along with 5000 rounds of ammunition. According to prosecutors, on Monday the defendant was found with more than 200 grams of a substance containing psilocybin, a hallucinogenic obtained from certain types of mushrooms; more than 2,000 grams but less than 5,000 grams of a substance containing cannabis; less than 15 grams of a substance containing cocaine; and less than 50 grams of a substance containing Xanax.  Prosecutors assert that the substances found were…

According to a statement on its Facebook page, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a new fraudulent scheme targeting residents in Kane County and neighboring towns. The scheme involves the issuance of counterfeit arrest warrants. The 13th annual St. Charles Jazz Weekend starts Thursday, September 12, and will feature over 45 different jazz performances at 21 St. Charles venues through Sunday. What a night for the members of the Aurora East High School Marching Band! On Saturday evening, the Fleetwood Mac tribute band TUSK performed at Aurora’s RiverEdge venue, and added a nice local touch. An adult male was hospitalized Saturday evening after an apparent shooting on Elgin’s east side. According to Elgin police, at 8:17pm, officers responded to the 400 block of Preston Avenue for a reported shooting, where they located an adult male subject with non-life threatening injuries who was subsequently transported to an area hospital.
