A 54-year-old Elgin man has been charged with firearms violations and resisting arrest after a shooting incident Tuesday evening. It is the eleventh shots fired incident in Elgin this year. At 10:35pm Tuesday, Elgin police officers responded to the 400 block of North Grove Avenue for a report of shots fired. Officers confirmed that shots had been fired and took a subject into custody at the scene. The National Weather Service Chicago has confirmed that three tornadoes touched down in the Fox Valley Tuesday evening, largely in the Tri-Cities area. An EF-1 tornado touched downs from Sugar Grove to Batavia, while a similar EF-1 touched down in Geneva. An EF-0 tornado touched down from Elburn to Campton Hills. EF-0 tornados have a wind speed of 65-85 mph and EF-1 tornados have a wind speed of 86-110 mph. No reported injuries or deaths were reported, although property damage was evident. On January 26th at 4:04pm, Elgin police officers responded to the 0-99 block of South Jackson Street in Elgin for a report of shots fired. Severe thunderstorms and tornados swept throught the Fox Valley last night, resulting from a freakish late February temperature inversion that had temperatures dropping from the upper 60s to 20s in the space of about an hour.
