The City of Elgin has announced its groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the Elgin Sports Complex. The event will take place on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, at 11am at the complex, located just south of U.S. Route 20, east of McLean Boulevard. According to a press release from the Kane County Sheriff’ Office, a pedestrian was killed Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a passing freight train in Rutland Township. A preliminary investigation indicated that at approximately 2:51pm, a pedestrian was hit by a CPKC freight train on the railroad tracks that run east and west, parallel to Big Timber Road at Coombs Road, in Rutland Township. The identity of the victim has not been released. No further information is available as the investigation is ongoing.
