On Tuesday evening at around 9:00pm, three men walked up to a man parking his car in a Naperville shopping center parking lot and forced him to surrender his car at gunpoint. At approximately 9:02 p.m., Naperville Police Officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of South Naper Boulevard for the report of a vehicular hijacking. The preliminary investigation indicated that soon after parking his vehicle, the victim was approached by three subjects, all of them armed with handguns. Suspect “threatened to kill everyone,” according to family member. Police have said that the suspect in the Highland Park mass shooting was “known to law enforcement” after two run-ins in 2019. According to Lake County Major Crimes Task Force spokesman Chris Covelli, in April 2019 Highland Park police were informed that suspect Robert Crimo III had earlier attempted suicide. Police spoke with Crimo and his parents and the matter was handled by mental health professionals, he said. In September of that year, a family member reported that Crimo threatened “to kill everyone” and had a collection of knives, Covelli said.…

Early Monday morning, a Polaris ATV with two riders crashed into a mailbox and then a tree near Huntley, killing one and sending one to the the hospital with life-threatening injuries. On July 4th at approximately 12:45 AM, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 18N800 block of Ridgefield Blvd. in unincorporated Rutland Township for an ATV crash with injuries.  The initial investigation indicates that the Polaris ATV had two riders and was traveling north on Ridgefield Blvd. and left the roadway for an unknown reason striking a mailbox in the 18N800 block of Ridgefield Blvd.  The ATV continued north…

Yesterday morning at approximately 10:10am, about 10 minutes after the Highland Park July 4th parade kicked off, a man positioned on a rooftop over the parade route opened fire with what has now been identified by authorities as a “high-powered rifle,” striking dozens of parade-goers, killing 6 and sending 26 to the hospital, 25 of which had sustained gunshot wounds. Of those 25, 19 have been released. According to hospital authorities, the age of victims ranged from 8 to 85. After the horrifying mass shooting in Highland Park Monday morning, many municipalities decided to cancel fireworks, while other went on with the celebrations. Here in the Fox Valley, two of the largest displays, those in Elgin and St. Charles, were cancelled, while those in Aurora and Batavia went on (with heightened security measures).
