A 19 year-old man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder Tuesday for severely beating a nurse at Elgin Mental Health Center. Kane County prosecutors allege that on July 17, 2021, the man attacked a nurse at Elgin Mental Health Center, punching her in the face and head and knocking her to the floor, causing life-threating injuries to her face, skull and upper body. The victim remains hospitalized. The Bartlett Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance locating 58-year-old Lisa M. Raska who was last seen in the area of Hale Avenue & North Avenue after she left her residence on foot on Friday, July 30, 2021 at approximately 7 p.m. She is 5’3”, 130 lbs. with brown hair in a ponytail and brown eyes. She was last seen carrying a blue plastic cup and wearing a black colored t-shirt, gray colored shorts, and flip flop sandals. During a special board meeting last night, the Geneva School Board put forth a revised plan that requires masking by all students, teachers, staff and visitors in Geneva schools. Interestingly, though, the board deferred taking a full vote on the plan until its next meeting on August 9. The masking issue has created significant controversy in the district, and it is likely that the board’s about-face in the wake of new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance issued last week will spur further dissent. The 21 year-old man who escaped authorities while being transported to the Kane County Sheriff’s Department for incarceration a week ago has been apprehended. The subject, Hugo R. Avila, was taken into custody Monday in Hanover Park at approximately 2:00 p.m. with the assistance of the Hanover Park Police Department. Last Tuesday, Mr. Avila was in custody in relation to felony traffic-related offenses and was being transported to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office when he escaped from the vehicle carrying him. According to a report in The Journal Times in Wisconsin, an Elgin man drowned Sunday while trying to save his son who had jumped off his boat while tubing. According to the report, the victim, Antonio F. Delasancha, Jr., was tubing on the lake Sunday morning with his two pre-teen daughters and his 11 year-old son. The two girls were in the tube being pulled by Delasancha when one of them fell off. Delasancha swung around to pick them up, at which point his son jumped in, with a life jacket, and started to drift away from the boat and…
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser has charged a Chicago man with the offenses of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon, Class X felony, in the July 29 shooting death of 30-year-old Jorge Sanchez of Carpentersville. Kane County prosecutors allege that at about 3:15 a.m. July 29, 2021, the accused fired multiple shots from a handgun at Sanchez, killing him. The man had previously dated a resident of the Foxview Apartment Complex, in the 1-99 block of Oxford Road in Carpentersville.
