Lingering icy road conditions lead to tragic results Sunday morning when an F-150 truck slid into and oncoming lane in Hampshire and struck a Prius head-on, killing its driver. At approximately 9:06am, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an accident with serious injuries in the 45W100 block of Allen Road in unincorporated Hampshire Township. On a later October morning in 2021, Aurora’s Daniel Mayen got being the wheel of his car after some heavy drinking. His blood-alcohol concentration was measured at .257, over three times the legal limit. The resulting head-on collision caused by Mayen’s erratic driving put his passenger in the hospital with serious injuries, and him in jail. Mayen now faces seven years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections. On an evening in late May, 2021, 46-year-old Samuel Ortiz-Rodriguez of Aurora was standing outside a residence talking with a few individuals. The Chicago Police Department officer who was shot and killed in the line of duty Wednesday has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Andres Vasquez-Lasso, 32. Vasquez-Lasso was responding to a domestic incident involving a person with a gun. According to police radio traffic, a caller had indicated that a domestic disturbance had occurred and that the suspect was chasing a woman down the street near 53rd Street and Spaulding Avenue in Chicago.
