Two Aurora men have been charged following a reckless discharge incident that occurred early Thursday morning in Aurora.
According to police, at approximately 12:48am officers responded to multiple ShotSpotter alerts in the 500 block of East Downer Place and 100 block of North Union Street. Evidence of gunfire was located at both scenes, and video footage of the incident was obtained during the initial response. Using License Plate Reader (LPR) technology, authorities identified a vehicle matching the description in the area.
Approximately 30 minutes later, officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle. A 9mm handgun was observed in plain view and recovered. Officers also recovered spent shell casings from both shooting locations, and preliminary investigation determined the casings were consistent with live ammunition found inside the vehicle. The vehicle’s four occupants were taken into custody without incident.
Based on the investigation and statements obtained, two individuals were identified as responsible for discharging the firearm.
“This case reflects the value of timely information-sharing and coordinated response,” said Chief Matt Thomas. “Fortunately, no people or property were struck by gunfire in this incident. Our officers quickly developed leads with the help of available technology and located those involved, bringing the situation to a safe resolution.”
