Explore the “City of Cemeteries” with EMF ghost meters on this two hour ghost walk tour of Aurora’s thriving downtown.
In 1881 Aurora got the nickname, “The City of Lights” because it was the first town in Illinois to light its streets with electric lights. But Aurora is also called “The City of Cemeteries,” for the unusually high number of graveyards located here.
The first burials at Mount Olivet Cemetery were prior to 1850, but people have reported seeing a 1958 Lincoln Continental drive up to the front gates and two women in 1950s-era clothing get out. Suddenly they and the car simply fade away.

It’s one thing to hear the spooky tale; it’s quite another to physically stand at the actual location where one of the city’s darkest events of the past occurred. And it’s even far more than that when the electromagnetic field (EMF) detector provided by the tour suddenly starts to flash and beep, which makes you wonder with eerie, hair-raising fright…Is the ghost of the tale standing next to you, listening about their own tragic demise?
The tour begins at Aurora’s Two Brothers Roundhouse which, legend has it, has its own spooky secrets, including shadow men, a ghost train, and maybe even the devil himself….
Brian suddenly burst out from the shadows at the west side of the building, running like he was on fire. His face was stark white with fear, eyes bulging wide, and he was too far beyond terror to even scream. Brian grabbed his bike from the bottom of the pile of kids’ bicycles, forcefully ripped it free from the entangling wheels and handlebars, and then took off on his bike like a rocket. Strangely, Brian refused to come to the door to tell them what had happened to him back in the shadows. Stranger still, Brian swore he would never again go back to the Aurora Roundhouse, saying only that, “The Devil’s in that hole!” He never explained what he meant by that…and he never did return to play in the Roundhouse.
The Aurora Hauntings Ghost Walk, which visits 5 haunted locations in downtown Aurora, was founded by Diane Ladley, who literally wrote the book on Haunted Aurora. Diane has been called “America’s Ghost Storyteller” and leads the tours with the same knowledge and passion that she brought to discovering these local legends and tales to begin with.
Tickets are $35 and the walk begins at 8:00pm. Visit here for more information.
Two Brothers Roundhouse is located at 205 North Broadway in Aurora.
