St. Charles Man Gets 7 Years After Leading Police On High-Speed Chase While Drunk

A St. Charles man , Robert S. Lord, was sentenced to seven years in prison in exchange for a guilty plea to the offenses of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding a Peace Officer, a Class 3 felony, and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to prosecutors, on September 15, 2024, police officers were dispatched to a Kane County residence for a domestic dispute. Upon learning that the police had been called, Lord entered a vehicle while he was intoxicated and attempted to flee the residence. Officers located him shortly after and Lord led them on a high-speed, lengthy pursuit.

Officers made multiple attempts to stop Lord by using spike strips and other police techniques, which damaged Sheriff’s Department property, but despite successfully disabling the tires of Lord’s vehicle, he attempted to continue to flee. Eventually, he was stopped and arrested.

Officers obtained a search warrant to draw blood and test it for alcohol content, but Lord continued in his refusal to cooperate with police.

Lord received an extended term sentence based on his prior criminal history. He receives credit for 472 days served in the Kane County jail.

“This conviction and sentence should serve as a warning for every motorist in Kane County that individuals who choose to flee the police and drive intoxicated will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, said Assistant State’s Attorney Katy Flannagan. “Refusal to cooperate with the police will not prevent a DUI conviction, and if you choose to flee the police you will be caught. These types of behaviors will not be tolerated on our roadways.”
