Kane County hospitals welcomed the first babies of the new year.

At Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, the first baby born in 2025 was Daniel Sosa, Jr., who arrived at 12:42 p.m. on January 1. The proud parents, Nayelly Valdez and Daniel Sosa from Aurora, celebrated the birth of their son, who weighed in at 6 pounds, 11 ounces, and measured 19.5 inches long.

In Elgin, Advocate Sherman Hospital introduced Forrest Jeremiah Mahoney, born at 3:55 p.m. on January 1. Forrest, who weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces and was 21 inches long, was named after his great-great grandfather and uncle. His parents, Caitlyn and Ryan from Crystal Lake, shared their excitement about the birth of their son, who has a little sister named Lorelei.
