Elgin Parks and Recreation’s aquatic centers are community treasures offering much more than swimming. Our centers—Adventure Island at The Centre of Elgin, Wing Park Family Aquatic Center, and the soon-to-be-reopened Lords Park Family Aquatic Center—are vibrant hubs of fun, fitness, and social engagement for all ages.
Adventure Island at The Centre of Elgin
Adventure Island, an indoor aquatic center opened in 2003 within The Centre of Elgin, provides year-round fitness and fun. It offers group and private swim lessons, water aerobics for adults, and a warm water therapy pool. The Elgin Cyclones Swim Team also calls Adventure Island home, fostering community spirit through its activities.
Wing Park, Lords Park Family Aquatic Centers
During summer, Wing Park and Lords Park Aquatic Centers become key destinations for families. Wing Park Family Aquatic Center, located in Elgin’s oldest park dating back to 1902, underwent significant renovations in 2000 and 2001, adding modern water play structures and upgraded facilities. Similarly, Lords Park Family Aquatic Center, nestled in the historic Lords Park, saw major updates during the same period, enhancing its accessibility and amenities. Both aquatic centers also have shaded picnic areas, concessions, and sunbathing decks, ensuring visitors can comfortably unwind and socialize during the summer season.
Our aquatic centers cater to diverse community needs with large pools for lap swim, fun water slides, and safe kiddie pool areas. They host various events like family swim nights, themed pool parties, and holiday events, fostering community spirit and creating lasting memories. These events are popular gathering points where parents and kids enjoy one another’s company, meet new friends, and reconnect with old ones.
Playing a crucial role in youth employment, our aquatic centers also provide many young residents their first job as lifeguards, swim instructors and pool attendants. These positions teach responsibility, teamwork, and leadership. Our part-time team—whether lifeguards, swim instructors, or pool attendants—are dedicated, professional, and friendly, contributing significantly to the centers’ welcoming atmosphere. Our mission within our aquatic division focuses on three key elements: safety first, fun-for-all, and kindness always.
Elgin Parks and Recreation’s aquatic centers are more than just swimming pools. They are essential community hubs that offer fun, fitness, and a sense of belonging. With excellent facilities, inclusive programs, engaging events, and a committed team, these centers are cherished by our community. Next time you seek a place to cool off, exercise, or have fun, visit one of Elgin’s aquatic centers to experience their unique charm.
