A 19-year-old Naperville man is in custody having been accused of using a garage door opener to gain entrance to a local residence and stealing a car key fob.
According to Naperville police, on Tuesday at approximately 1:25am, residents at the 2600 block of Blakely Lane contacted police to report a residential burglary that had just occurred. The residents told responding officers that they heard noises downstairs and went to investigate, which is when they found the garage service door partially open and a key fob missing from the mudroom.
The initial investigation revealed that an individual had broken into a vehicle in the driveway, taken the garage door opener from inside the vehicle and used it to open the garage. The offender then entered the residence through the garage service door and stole car keys from the mudroom, which is located just inside the service door from the garage.
Responding officers located a person of interest walking nearby and allegedly located burglary tools and burglary proceeds on his person. The suspect was arrested and is charged with Residential Burglary, a Class 1 felony, and Burglary, a Class 3 felony.
