A 31-year-old St. Charles man was killed early this morning after he apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed head-on into a utility pole on Route 64 near Campton Hills.

At approximately 1:31am, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Route 64 at Anderson Road in St. Charles Township for a report of a single-vehicle, single-occupant head-on crash. The deputies found a red 2007 Mercedes-Benz C280 facing eastbound in the north ditch. The vehicle had significant front-end damage from a head-on crash with a utility pole.

Authorities believe that the vehicle, driven by Alexander Enskat of St. Charles, was eastbound on Route 64, just east of Anderson Road, when it left the roadway for an unknown reason and struck a utility pole. Speed appears to have played a factor in the crash. Airbags were deployed, and the driver appeared to be wearing a seatbelt during the crash.

Authorities have given no indication as to whether alcohol or other intoxicants were involved in the accident.
