4 FOR THE WEEKEND
where we tell you: “Who’s Your Grandaddy???”
So let’s get to it, starting with…..
Who’s Your Grandaddy?
Yes, it’s that time of year again.
Time for the “Grandaddy” of Illinois festivals.
That’s right, Swedish Days in Geneva. So here are a few Swedish facts for you to get you in the mood:
Swedes are terrified of badgers
Swedish students scream every night
At a Swedish wedding, anyone can make a speech (oh dear)
Don’t believe us? Well you can look it up…..

Does This Mean Woodstock Was Named After A Guy Named “Wood?”
Head on up to Elgin this weekend for the 4th annual “SmithStock,” a two-day festival of music at Old Republic Kitchen + Bar.
Supposedly named after owner Nick Smith’s habit of (allegedly) throwing parties on his parent’s deck when they were away during his youth.

Fine Art & Artisans: Sounds Like An Indy Band
The Naperville Fine Art & Artisans Fair boasts that it’s the longest-running juried art fair in Illinois.
In its 63rd year, I suppose we should believe them.
Although, we really have to wonder what that first fair was like. Let’s see, if our math is right, that would have been in 1960, year of beehives, JFK and the birth of our dear dister.
(Yes, we know, you don’t care about my sister. Fine, get your own newsletter and write about what YOU want.)
It kinda boggles the mind, doesn’t it?

And Finally…
On a more high-brow note, we don’t get much opera in the Fox Valley, so when it’s offered we should take note.
The West Suburban Symphony will be presenting Cavalleria Rusticana (Rustic Chivalry) this Sunday at the beautiful Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville.
It’s referred to as a “short opera,” so if opera is something you take in small doses, you should check it out.

We’ve given up on predicting the weather. The Weather Channel is always wrong. You’re on your own, folks.
If, for whatever reason, none of our fabulous four events doesn’t pop your cork, we’ll be very insulted. However, all hope is not lost. Simply go to www.foxvalleymagazine.com and check out our A+E and Events sections for other ideas.
Finally, please do us a favor. We would be eternally grateful if you could share this with some of your unsuspecting family, friends and neighbors. We’d also appreciate some love on our Facebook page (see below). Ok, technically it’s a “LIKE,” but don’t be pedantic. Also, that’s actually two favors. We’ll owe you.
Thanks for reading. Until next time…OH! One more thing. If you’re reading this via the website and would like to have this emailed to you bright and early every Friday morning, please SUBSCRIBE!
