Four for the Weekend | March 17-19, 2023

Welcome to our latest edition of Fox Valley Magazine’s

    4 FOR THE WEEKEND

where it’s “St. Paddy’s Day II – This Time It’s Personal!”

So let’s get to it, starting with…..

    Deja Vu All Over Again

As you regular readers (hi mom!) know, last week we ridiculed the fact that all the St. Patrick’ s Day celebrations were being held on March 10, as opposed to, well, today, which is actually St. Patrick’s Day.

Our mockery was met with drunken Irishpersons (how’s that for PC?) calling us all kinds of weird names, like “tinker” and “gobshite” and “gombeen.” (Who uses insults like these?)

But since we don’t care a tinker’s cuss what insults people hurl (and we do mean “hurl”) at us, we’ll just Keep Calm and Carry On. (See what we did there?)

At least East Dundee tried to get it right…

Smile, Though Your Heart Is Breaking

As all but the bloody Irish know, the Most Important Global Event begins this weekend (well, on Thursday).

We speak, of course, about the NCAA basketball tournament, or March Madness, as it’s known.

This tourney is supposed to be full of joy, a celebration of achievement, underdogs coming through in the clutch, school pride, magical moments.

But let us tell you right now, it’s all a lie. The NCAA tournament is ultimately about defeat, about heartbreak, about, well, death, really.

Considering the fact that 67 of the 68 teams that participate go home with shattered dreams, tearful cheerleaders and floor burns, we fail to see the joy in it. We see disappointment, devastation, depression.

So go enjoy some comedy at the Comedy Vault instead. No unfair referees, no biased ACC announcers, and no missed late free throws leading to defeat.

    (Sincerely, an Illini fan…)

To Our Knowledge, Nektar Has NO Affiliation To The Irish

Of course, you never know. The Irish are pretty sneaky. But to our knowledge, the unique band Nektar has no ties to Ireland or its people.

So we think you’re safe with this one.

Check them out at the Arcada, which we can confirm is run by Italians.

    And Finally…

..a welcome addition to the scene, Moonlight Theatre.

This relatively new venue in St. Charles gives the feel of a classic cabaret, with elegant design and intimate layout.

On Friday, local R&B greats R-Gang take the stage for what should be an exhilarating evening.

We’ve given up on predicting the weather. The Weather Channel is always wrong. You’re on your own, folks.

If, for whatever reason, none of our fabulous four events doesn’t pop your cork, we’ll be very insulted. However, all hope is not lost. Simply go to www.foxvalleymagazine.com and check out our A+E and Events sections for other ideas.

Finally, please do us a favor. We would be eternally grateful if you could share this with some of your unsuspecting family, friends and neighbors. We’d also appreciate some love on our Facebook page (see below). Ok, technically it’s a “LIKE,” but don’t be pedantic. Also, that’s actually two favors. We’ll owe you.

Thanks for reading. Until next time…OH!  One more thing.  If you’re reading this via the website and would like to have this emailed to you bright and early every Friday morning, please SUBSCRIBE!
