An Elgin man has been found guilty of sexually abusing a child over a nineteen-month period beginning in October 2021. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced today that a jury has found 36-year-old Ernesto Velasquez-Jimenez guilty of Predatory Criminal Sex Assault of a child, a Class X felony (3 counts), and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse of a child, a Class 2 felony (7 counts). An 21-year-old man has been charged with First-Degree murder in relation to a stabbing death on Elgin’s north side Saturday afternoon. Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Lords Park Zoo has four new cervine residents today. On Saturday, four deer sourced from Elkhorn Creek Whitetails, a USDA-certified farm in Oakdale, Illinois, were welcomed to the zoo, including two 4 ½-year-old deer, one 3 ½-year-old deer, and one 2 ½-year-old deer. The delivery of the deer was facilitated by Chase Baker, the president of the Illinois Deer Farmers Association. Their arrival is made possible by the generosity of the Friends of Lords Park Zoo, who are covering the cost of both the purchase and delivery. Elgin police are investigating a fatal stabbing on Elgin’s north side early this afternoon. The incident took place just after noon in the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue in Elgin, where Elgin police located an adult male with life-threatening injuries after receiving reports of a stabbing. The victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased. Detectives from the Major Investigations Division are actively investigating the case and have a person of interest in custody. According to a press release from the City of Geneva, 13 cars were discovered burglarized this morning, primarily in the Fisher Farms subdivision. Geneva Police officers responded to reports of car burglaries at the following locations: In what appears to be a related incident, Kane County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a suspicious man near their headquarters on Route 38 in unincorporated Kane County and arrested him on unrelated charges. Police are investigating the death of an Aurora woman who was fatally struck by a pickup truck near downtown Aurora Thursday evening. According to a press release from the Aurora Police Department, at approximately 5:46pm Thursday the APD and Aurora Fire Department responded to the intersection of East New York Street and West Park Place for a reported vehicle versus pedestrian crash, where they found a 72-year-old woman suffering from serious injuries.
