An 21-year-old man has been charged with First-Degree murder in relation to a stabbing death on Elgin’s north side Saturday afternoon.

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Elgin Chief of Police Ana Z. Lalley today announced that the suspect has been charged with First-degree murder, a Class M felony (3 counts), and Aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, a Class 3 felony.

According to prosecutors, the incident took place just after noon in the 1000 block of Cedar Avenue in Elgin, where Elgin police located an adult male with life-threatening injuries after receiving reports of a stabbing.

The victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital and later pronounced deceased.

Upon further investigation, the suspect, a resident of the 700 block of Dundee Avenue in Elgin, was taken into custody without incident.

On Monday, the suspect was transported to the Kane County jail for pre-trial detention proceedings, which are ongoing. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 24, 2024, at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 211 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
