On June 28, air quality for the Batavia area will be Unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to data from airnow.gov, a site run by the EPA and its partners. Smoke from widespread forest fires in Canada have wreaked havoc with air quality throughout the Midwest and eastern United States. A man was shot and killed early this morning on Elgin’s west side. At 1:04 a.m., Elgin police officers responded to the 200 block of South Aldine Street for a reported shooting. Upon arriving, officers located an adult male subject with gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Preliminary information received is that this incident appears to be isolated with no threat to the community. A Yorkville man is dead after his vehicle struck a traffic signal early this morning in Yorkville. According to Yorkville police, at approximately 1:50 a.m. officers responded to the intersection of Route 47 and Route 71 for a report of a single vehicle car accident. Police found a 30-year-old man and applied life-saving techniques, after which he was transported to a nearby hospital. The man was subsequently pronounced deceased. The preliminary investigation suggests that a 2017 Honda sedan driven by the man left the roadway and struck a traffic signal. No further details have been made available. The victim’s name…
