The beloved Geneva French Market will be open again on Sunday in its customary space in the Metra parking lot at 4th and South Streets. Hours will be from 9AM – 2PM. Gunfire incidents in Elgin are down approximately 13% from the same period last year (January 1 – June 1), but well under a third of such incidents are cleared (solved) by investigators. Elgin set a record last year with 66 gunfire incidents in total. That broke the previous record, set in 2016, of 64. During the first 5 months of this year, Elgin experienced 27 gunfire incidents, compared to 31 in 2001. A Naperville Police Officer shot and killed a man running at him with a hatchet during a seemingly routine traffic stop. At approximately 11 a.m. this morning, an officer was conducting a traffic stop near the intersection of Bond Street and McDowell Road in Naperville when an unrelated vehicle pulled up next to the vehicle the officer had pulled over. A man got out of the vehicle and charged at the officer with a hatchet in his hand. The officer pulled his gun and shot the man. The man, described as a white male in his 20s, was transported to…
