A 43-year-old Aurora man was sentenced to 25 years in an Illinois prison this week for repeated sexual assaults on a woman he knew. Last week, Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo sentenced José C. Salinas of the 700 block of Claim Street in Aurora to 25 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony. Salinas had previously pleaded guilty to the charge. Between April 2010 and June 2013, Salinas sexually assaulted the victim multiple times. The community gun buy back event held at the Kane County Health Department in Aurora resulted in a lot of guns being taken out of circulation. So many, in fact, that sponsor Christ Community Church ran out of gift cards to compensate those turning in their guns. All told, over 100 weapons were recovered. The dark side of social networking became all too apparent to a an area girl who met a person online pretending to be a woman, only to find herself extorted into sharing lewd phots of herself. The extortionist, 23-year-old male Anchit Nayyar of Carol Stream, was sentenced this week to 4 years in prison by Kane County Judge Alice C. Tracy. An updated report from Penn Wharton analyzing the fiscal impact of President Biden’s announced student loan forgiveness plan has increased its overall fiscal impact to $605 billion over ten years. Penn Wharton’s previous estimate was roughly $300 billion. The analysis was updated to include the details included in the President’s announced plan, which include debt payment deferral and an income-based repayment regime that caps payments to 5% of eligible income for each borrower.
