From Friday to Sunday, October 7-9, NAMI DuPage will host its Third Annual Octoberfest at the DuPage County Fairgrounds. A Chicago man accused of stabbing a female acquaintance multiple times about her stomach, neck and chest earlier this month is being held without bond after DuPage County judge granted State’s Attorney Robert Berlin’s motion to deny. The suspect has been charged with one count of Attempted Murder (Class X Felony) and one count of Aggravated Domestic Battery (Class 2 Felony). The 55-year-old Batavia woman who died after being struck by a car in Geneva Thursday evening has been identified. In a press release issued by the Kane County Coroner, the woman was identified as Tammy Berke. Berke died after being struck by a car around 6:48 p.m. Thursday evening in the 700 block of East State Street (Route 38) in Geneva. Berke was walking southbound near the center turn lane on State Street east of Sandholm Street across from the Dairy Queen. A large tent and long tables lined with soil samples along the Kane/Dupage border became an outdoor classroom for dozens of researchers who were looking for remnants of a glacier. On property behind the gas station at Route 38 and Kirk Road, a hydraulic drill reached down approximately100 feet into the ground while nearby geologists studied and logged samples of the excavated soil, including glacial deposits dating back 26,000 years. An undercover operation by Aurora Police Department’s Cadets last week resulted in identifying five Aurora businesses who sold alcohol or tobacco to minors. APD’s cadets, who are all under the age of 21, went into different businesses and attempted to purchase alcohol or tobacco. Five of the businesses “carded” the cadets and were complying with the City of Aurora’s ordinances that required carding to prohibit the sale of alcohol or tobacco to minors.
