Elgin experienced its 48th incident of gunfire this year last night, according to the Elgin Police Department records. According to a press release, at approximately 7:51 p.m., Elgin police officers responded to the 800 block of St. Charles Street for a report of shots fired. This Saturday from 10am to 1pm, the Gail Borden Library will be accepting food donations as part of the 11th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Food Drive. The event is usually held in January, but organizers have determined that a head start is necessary. Organizers of the event are making it easier for local residents to help others in these challenging times caused by COVID. A 66 year-old former teacher’s aide and substitute teacher was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the criminal sexual assault of 12 children between August 2015 and June 2017. Carlos A. Bedoya, already serving a 112-year sentence for predatory criminal sexual assault, agreed to the sentence in exchange for guilty pleas to the offenses of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Class 2 felony, 12 counts. Naperville police are investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred Monday morning near 95th Street and Wolf’s Crossing in Elgin. At approximately 11:13 a.m. Monday morning, the Naperville Police Department and the Naperville Fire Department responded to the area of 95th Street and Wolf’s Crossing Road for a single vehicle crash with injuries. An auto repair facility in unincorporated Elgin was destroyed in a spectacular fire early Saturday evening, according to reports from the Bartlett Fire Department. On Saturday at approximately 6:09pm, the Bartlett Fire Department was called to a report of a structure fire in the area of Lambert and Spaulding Roads. A 16 year-old juvenile was charged today with attempted murder in a shooting incident Sunday morning in Elgin. He will be tried as an adult.
