It’s not just in Canada anymore. The Illinois State (ISP) Police has issued a warning to motorists about anticipated “protest trucker convoys” coming to several interstates in Illinois. The convoys are an extension of the massive trucker convoys in Canada that recently blocked border crossings into the US and effectively blockaded the capitol in Ottawa, resulting in the controversial decision by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to invoke the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canadian history. A coalition of eight communities, including Elgin, filed its Opening Comments and Request for Conditions to the Federal Surface Transportation Board (STB) in a continued quest to block, as proposed, a merger between the Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern, (CPKC) freight railroads today. Back in October of 2021, CPKC filed a merger application with the STB to create the only single-line rail network linking the U.S.—from Canada to Mexico. On November 23 of last year, Adam D. Knisley was killed when his 2007 Infiniti coupe collided head-on with a fully-loaded Batavia school bus just leaving Rotolo Middle School in Batavia. According to the Batavia Police Department, approximately 39 students were on the bus at the time of the collision. Remarkably, all but one walked away with nothing worse than minor injuries. One child was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the bus was uninjured. Elgin police had a busy weekend with three separate gun-related incidents on Friday and Saturday. On Friday evening, two separate gunshot incidents happened approximately 90 minutes apart in different areas in Elgin. At 9:50pm Friday evening, officers responded to the 700 block of Murray Avenue for a report of shots fired. Then, at about 11:20pm, another gunfire incident was reported near Elgin High School.
