Twelve businesses were burglarized early Wednesday morning in a series of smash-and-grab attacks that bear a distinct similarity to similar burglaries in Elgin early Monday morning. A Geneva Police officer on patrol discovered a burglarized business at 2:22 am in the 1700 block of South Randall Road. The offender(s) used an object, possibly a brick or a fire extinguisher, to break out the storefront glass to gain entry. Elgin schools are being provided extra surveillance by the Elgin Police Department after a bomb threat was called in to the EPD’s tip line this morning. According to a police posting on social media, at 8:14am the EPD received a school threat on its 411 tip line advising of a bomb threat to Elgin area schools. There was no other specific information that was provided in regard to the threat. The Elgin Police Department is warning local businesses about a string of “smash-and-grab” commercial burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of Monday. According to a Facebook post by the department, between 1am and 2am Monday police responded to 6 active burglar alarms along McLean Blvd and Dundee Avenue. All involved shattered windows and various stolen merchandise. The department advises businesses to ensure security systems are functioning properly and, given the brief nature of the crimes, to ensure cash and other high-value assets are locked up and out-of-sight. A 40-year-old Aurora man has been charged with multiple counts of child pornography after police raided his home Thursday morning and found multiple electronic devices containing suspected elicit material. On Thursday, February 23, 2023, at approximately 6:15 a.m., the Aurora Police Department executed a search warrant at a home in the 1300 block of Valayna Drive in Aurora.
