According to a report in The Journal Times in Wisconsin, an Elgin man drowned Sunday while trying to save his son who had jumped off his boat while tubing.
According to the report, the victim, Antonio F. Delasancha, Jr., was tubing on the lake Sunday morning with his two pre-teen daughters and his 11 year-old son.
The two girls were in the tube being pulled by Delasancha when one of them fell off. Delasancha swung around to pick them up, at which point his son jumped in, with a life jacket, and started to drift away from the boat and struggle. Delasancha, not wearing a life jacket, jumped in to aid the child but could not reach him before submerging in the water, apparently exhausted. He drowned in approximately 45 feet of water.
The report indicated that Delasancha’s body was identified at about 11:45pm by search and rescue teams using sonar, but was not recovered until 8:30am Monday morning due to safety concerns.
The investigation is continuing.
