A motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries Wednesday evening resulting from a head-on collision with a car on North Washington Avenue in Batavia, according to the Batavia Police Department.
On Wednesday at approximately 10:45 PM, Batavia Police were dispatched to the 600 block of North Washington Avenue for a traffic crash involving a white Kia K5 and a Harley V-Rod motorcycle.
The operator of the motorcycle suffered serious injuries requiring transport to an area hospital. No injuries were reported by the occupants of the Kia K5.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the Kia was traveling Northbound on North Washington Street while the motorcycle was traveling Southbound. The Kia started to enter the lane for Southbound traffic and in response the motorcycle operator attempted to stop. In doing so, the motorcycle operator became separated from the motorcycle and struck the front passenger side of the Kia.
The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation of this case which remains on-going.
Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor to this crash.
The motorcycle operator was identified as 50-year-old Batavia resident Michael W. Osborne of the 400 block of Fox Trail Drive. Mr. Osborne was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Mr. Osborne remains in the hospital and is continuing to receive medical treatment. The driver of the Kia was identified as 50- year-old Batavia resident Sandra J. Buerer of the 1000 block of Lorlyn Circle.
